The Story of Queen Esther

My Dad had us start reading the book of Esther tonight. We read chapters one through three, starting with the banishing of Queen Vashti to Esther becoming the new Queen of Persia. After we read the chapters we did a skit – I was the King, Ruby was Queen Vashti, Ellen was Memucan and the rest of the kids and my Dad were servants. One particular part my Dad was talking about, especially to us girls was that when Queen Vashti refused to obey her husband she had to be made an example; otherwise all the woman throughout the kingdom would think that they did not have to obey their masters.

And Memucan answered before the king and the princes, Vashti the queen hath not done wrong to the king only, but also to all the princes, and to all the people that are in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus. For this deed of the queen shall come abroad unto all women, so that they shall despise their husbands in their eyes, when it shall be reported, The king Ahasuerus commanded Vashti the queen to be brought in before him, but she came not. Esther 1:16-17

This still applies to me even though I am not married because if I do not obey my Dad or Mom when they tell me to do something, that is putting a bad example out to my younger brother and sisters and they will start to think that it is normal. Esther was obedient to her Uncle Mordecai which prepared her for what was ahead as Queen of Persia.

My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother: For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck. Proverbs 1:8-9

  1. I started reading Esther out loud to Eloise a little while ago. She doesn't understand it yet, but I look forward to you and your family helping her grow in understanding as she grows older. Thank you in advance!
